Wendy has normal elbows and patella, fair hips and cleared eyes yearly. She is out going and an active family companion. Wendy is intelligent, learning new concepts quickly. She is fast, with high endurance running for 2 - 2.5 miles non stop on the tread mill several time a week. She has a clean profile characteristic of a Flat Coat, with a long neck, deep chest and a slight stop on the head. She is a multi-purpose retriever, flushing upland game, retrieving waterfowl, or just getting the newspaper from the end of the driveway. The coat is flat with feathering on the prow, legs, rump, and tail. Her constantly wagging tail is a clear indication of her happy attitude.
Wendy measures 24" at the withers, by 27" long. She is lean with excellent muscle tone. She has good overall bone and the legs are oval. Wendy has a clean, one piece like head. The muzzle is long and can easily pick up game. The muzzle length is slightly greater than the width of her head. Her eyes are set wide, dark brown, and correctly filled in front and between. Greater filling underneath would be desirable. The eyes are medium size and oval. The ears are correctly set on the head and slightly curved like rose buds. She has a scissor bite with one broken tip on a lower canine tooth from an unknown injury. The tooth was repaired by a veterinary dentist at two years of age.
Wendy has a long neck and strong, level topline. She has a deep chest and moderate tuckup. Her mid-ribs and rump areas are slightly wider than the loin area. The tail is straight with a slight kink about the mid-point. She has a laid back shoulder, correctly angled forearm and balanced weight distribution. The dewclaws were remove shortly after birth. She has medium round tight feet with arched toes. The hindquarter are strong and also angulated properly. The rear feet are oval, medium size and tight.
Wendy has a sound efficient gait. Her trot is smooth and balanced. She gallops when higher speeds are demanded, such as retrieving a bird on land. Her swimming is strong and with no unnecessary splashing or wasted motion. Wendy has outstanding temperament and character. Never nervous or hyperactive and always willing to please. She alerts when necessary outdoors, but greets strangers with the characteristic wagging tail.
She is unphased by loud noises, such as gun fire, and flushes upland game birds within easy gun range. On a recent hunting trip, I only took Wendy with me and she lasted several hours in the hot sun tracking and flushing quail. Our dogs live with us at home and bond with each family member uniquely.
